WE looked back at pictures of one of the first farmers' markets in the country after it recently celebrated 25 years.

Hexham Farmers' Market was established in 1999 by Anne Dale, Tamsin Beevor, and Julie Charlton and formally celebrated its anniversary on September 28.

The market has been going since 1999The market has been going since 1999 (Image: David Hewitson) Sellers and organisers of Hexham Farmers' Market formally celebrated its 25th birthday with cake, a display of publicity from its early days, and recognition for the people who set it up.

It was originally located at Hexham Mart before moving to the town centre's marketplace.

The market in 2003The market in 2003 (Image: Tony Iley) Prince Charles visited the farmers' market when a special Produced in Northumberland version was held in 2018 during his tour of Tynedale.

The third episode, filmed in March 2023, featured contestants spending time with producers and traders at Hexham Farmers' Market to learn the culture of various agricultural industries.

This month, the Farmers' Market is on Saturday, November 9, from 9am to 1.30pm in the Market Place and Abbey Flags.

This is followed by another Hexham Farmers' Market event on Saturday, November 23, from 9am to 1.30pm in the same spot.
