A TESCO community champion was nominated Person of the Week.

Amanda Gray, who lives in Hexham, was nominated Person of the Week by several readers for her 'hard work and dedication'.

She works at Tesco as a checkout team leader and is also a Tesco community champion.

Tesco said: "A community champion is one of the links between the store and the community it serves. They are a store colleague who cares passionately about their community.

"Community champions also manage a small community donation budget that can be used for financial support for community groups or events.

Becki Colquhoun nominated Amanda for her 'hard work and dedication'. "She is always willing to help others and always brings a smile to people's day," she added.

Zoe Keen said: "Amanda Gray 100 per cent, she goes above and beyond to help in any way she can. Amazing lady."

Other readers including Jane Curry, Helen Gibbin, Shirley Bryant, Claire Dodd, Heather Hill, Angela Scott, Kathleen Stewart and Natasha Snowball also chose Amanda as Person of the Week.

The Facebook page Stage Fright C.I.C said: "She does so much for many charities, community companies and generally cares for everyone. Simply the best."

Nat Barrow commented: "This lady goes above and beyond for the community and is always on the go helping out for charities, this woman is one heck of a hero."

Amanda said she helps anyone who comes into Tesco and asks for a donation for a community event, such as a raffle prize.

She has fundraised for the organisation Gateway Into The Community and raised £850 for the charity Holly's Hope to pay for a bleed box.

"I think it’s a fabulous idea that there are more bleed boxes around. The death of Holly really shook the community so helping give something back to help someone else means a lot to me."

Speaking of helping people, she said: "It used to be just for my job but I'm now very well thought of in the local community. I feel very honoured that people think so much of me to vote for me."
