Simple Minds bass guitar legend Derek Forbes is set to appear at the Queen's Hall Arts Centre in Hexham as part of his book tour.

Mr Forbes, one of the original band members, penned his autobiography A Very Simple Mind: On Tour last year.

The book chronicles his experiences with Simple Minds, a band that rose from Glasgow's working-class roots in 1977 to become stadium rockers alongside U2 by the mid-80s.

Mr Forbes is renowned for his distinctive bass riffs heard in most Simple Minds' songs and for co-writing many of the band's early classics.

His influence also extends internationally as a songwriter and bassist for Big Country and Propaganda.

He has recorded with notable artists including Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd, and Kirsty MacColl.

His songwriting for Simple Minds earned him an Ivor Novello Award for ‘Outstanding Song Collection’ in 2016, and he has been recognised as the best bass player in the world in 1982 and in Scotland in 2010.

Mr Forbes's book offers a peek into the camaraderie, fun, and challenges the band faced in their early days.

However, the fun reportedly ceased for him in 1985 when he was informed of his dismissal from the band by manager Bruce Findlay.

The reasons for his sacking remain a topic of discussion and debate among fans.

Mr Forbes rejoined Simple Minds in 1995 and toured with them again.

Following the completion of his book tour across the UK last year, he is keen to continue sharing his stories at upcoming events in 2024.
