A North East NHS charity has teamed up with the Newcastle Eagles to spotlight men's mental health issues.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Bright Charity paired up with the Eagles to roll out a podcast series, 'Beyond the Court,' aimed at reducing stigma around mental health.
The initiative forms part of men's mental health awareness month and features a three-part podcast series with open and honest discussions with professional sportsmen.
The series delves into the everyday challenges Eagles athletes face, both on and off the court, featuring conversations with players Jordan Spencer, Mike Okauru, Sam Mamuini and Sauvuer Kande.
The episodes will discuss topics such as stress, gambling, injury, and isolation.
Marc Steutel, head coach of Newcastle Eagles, said: "As a team we talk a lot about supporting each other and strength through togetherness, so it's great that Jordan, Mike, Sam and Sauveur, have been able to share their experiences and stories in the hope it can help other people across the North East and beyond."
Rob Graham, head of charity, said: “The topics covered during the podcasts are really important ones and it is great to hear some of the Eagles’ players talking so openly about things such as gambling, mental health and resilience."
The first episode is now available on YouTube and Spotify, with more to follow.
