THE Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for rain and snow.
As Storm Bert is expected to hit the UK this weekend, the Met Office has issued a new weather warning.
The warning for rain and snow extends from Saturday, November 23 until Sunday, November 24.
The Met Office said: "Heavy snow on Saturday, followed by a rapid thaw and subsequent rain on Saturday night, may cause some disruption.
"Heavy snow will spread northeastwards on Saturday morning, giving significant accumulations in many areas.
"Accumulations of 10-20cm are likely on ground typically above 200m, with potentially as much as 20-40 cm on hills above 400m.
"Snow will eventually revert to rain during Saturday afternoon, but may be preceded by a short spell of freezing rain in places adding to the ice risk.
"Strengthening winds will lead to drifting of lying snow, with difficult travelling conditions likely on higher level routes, and the risk of interruptions to power supplies.
"A fairly rapid thaw of lying snow is then likely on Saturday night as milder air moves in."
Here's this week's forecast:
Tonight:
Any evening snow showers moving away southwards with clear spells developing. Further wintry showers possible in coastal areas overnight. Windy and cold, with icy stretches likely where showers have occurred. Minimum temperature -3 °C.
Friday:
Cold and mostly dry with sunny spells. Coastal wintry showers are likely through the morning before moving offshore. Perhaps isolated snow showers over the Pennines later. Wind easing. Maximum temperature 3 °C.
Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
Becoming very windy Saturday with snow, turning to rain later with much milder air arriving. Windy and mild Sunday with rain then showers. Cooler and windy Monday with showers.
