A town mayor was nominated Person of the Week.

Katherine Miller nominated Prudhoe mayor Angie Scott for the title this week.

Katherine said: "She is once again organising her Christmas appeal for toys and presents for children in the area who are less fortunate, and she does this every year without fail. She's very worthy of this award, never asking for publicity and doesn't do it for any other reason than she wants all kids to have a great Christmas."

Angie started her Christmas toy appeal five years ago in 2021.

"My small team and I donned gloves, wielded disinfectant, and quarantined toys for 72 hours to ensure every present was safe and sparkling.

"It wasn’t exactly Santa’s grotto but we made it work! If anything, it gave us a crash course in perseverance."

Fast-forward to today and Angie said the appeal has grown into a cherished community tradition, supported by the generous donations of local people and businesses.

"Over the years, the team has delivered hundreds of gifts through local organisations, such as Family Hub, Ferndene Hospital, Miners Lamp Café and Community Hub, Domestic Abuse Team and West Northumberland Foodbank. We tried to ensure struggling families could focus on creating happy memories instead of worrying about Christmas morning.

"Each year, the kindness of this community amazes me. It shows how much we care. This isn’t just about gifts; it’s about hope, love, and making every child feel special.

"With Christmas 2024 on the horizon, my team and I are planning to go bigger and better, hoping to reach even more families. The Christmas spirit is alive and well.

"This year, the appeal celebrates five years of bringing Christmas joy to struggling families in Prudhoe and beyond, with big plans to make 2024 the most magical yet."

The Angie Scott Christmas Appeal is underway and looking for toys, gifts, and funds donations to make this year’s drive the most successful yet.

Drop your gifts at Red Hot Properties on Front Street, Prudhoe, Prudhoe Community Hub next to the Co-op or Tyne Riverside Cafe.

"Let’s show that we care and look after one another this Christmas. The best gift of all is a generous heart," Angie added.
