A golf club based in Heddon-on-the-Wall has been nominated for two national awards.

Close House has been nominated for the 2024 Golf Course Awards' Emerging Golf Course of the Year and Junior Golf Programme of the Year.

The accolades mark a significant milestone for the club since the introduction of its Championship Colt Course in 2011.

The Emerging Golf Course of the Year award highlights new or recently renovated courses that demonstrate innovation, quality design, high maintenance standards, and a strong focus on player experience.

Community engagement and inclusivity are also factors taken into account in this awards category.

Close House is one of the finalists alongside The Castle Course at St Andrews Links, The Grove, Dumbarnie Links, The New Course, Royal Norwich, and The Inspiration Club.

Sir Graham Wylie, owner of Close House, said: "It is fantastic that Close House continues to be recognised among the leading golf clubs in the country.

"Since the Championship Lee Westwood Colt Course opened in 2011, we have achieved so much as a club.

"We remain committed to investing in our facilities and look forward to hosting more exciting events at Close House."

The Junior Golf Programme of the Year nomination highlights clubs that support the development of young golfers.

Close House has focused on growing its junior section and improving its facilities.

Sir Graham said: "I’m particularly proud of the Junior Masters, a legacy project from the 2017 British Masters - the first European Tour event we hosted.

"This initiative has introduced thousands of schoolchildren to golf and inspired hundreds of junior players to develop their potential."

The winners of the Golf Course Awards, which honour exceptional courses across Great Britain and Ireland, will be determined by a panel of judges.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at The Shard in London on December 5.

There will be 12 award winners in total.

This news comes after Close House hosted major events such as the British Masters in 2017 and 2020 on the DP World Tour, and the International Series England 2023 on the Asian Tour.
