Northumberland Wildlife Trust has launched a campaign to raise funds for Whitelee Moor.
The nature reserve is the second biggest in England and a site of European conservation importance.
More than half the site consists of blanket bog, which serves as a carbon and water store.
This plays a role in managing climate impacts and reduces potential flooding downstream in the Rede and Tyne rivers.
The reserve also supports diverse plant and animal life, including various bird species and unique flora.
The Trust's Big Give Christmas Appeal seeks to raise £17,600 to fund work with contractors and volunteers on peatland restoration, meadow enhancement, tree planting, and other conservation efforts.
Notably, from December 3 to 10, any contributions made will be matched by Northumberland Wildlife Trust donors and the Reed Foundation.
More information about the reserve is available at nwt.org.uk/nature-reserves/whitelee-moor.
