THE Labour Party has announced its candidate for Penrith and The Border.
Sarah Williams has been a member of the party for all of her adult life and, from a young age, she campaigned in local and national elections in the constituency.
She was brought up in Wigton where she attended school before studying engineering at Hull University.
As a committed and accomplished musician, she moved on to the Royal Academy of Music to study a diploma in performance and has since worked as a freelance musician and music teacher for over 20 years.
As well as working with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra, she has played in a huge variety of West End shows including Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables and has collaborated with many jazz and pop artists such as Tony Bennett, Jamie Cullum, Tom Jones, Lulu and Dannii Minogue.
Sarah is a Labour activist whose experience includes being elected to the National Executive of the Musician’s Union in 2016 and election as a Haringey Councillor in 2018 where she chairs the Labour Group.
She is campaigner and has worked in support of the Anti-Academies Alliance. and shared in the setting up of the ‘Fair Funding for All’ school’s funding campaign.
