WE shared the news with our readers that a major national retailer confirmed it hopes to open new premises in Hexham.

The Range, a home, leisure and garden retailer, confirmed it aims to open a store in Hexham in the future.

Job vacancies are being advertised for positions including store manager, operations manager and multiple retail assistants.

Here's what readers thought.

Liz Stappard said: "Good news for jobs, but sad we have this instead of Marks and Spencer. It would have been lovely if Hexham could have had an arcade in old Robbs similar to Sanderson arcade in Morpeth."

Cameron Jamieson replied and said: "Quite sad to see the decline in quality large shops in Hexham, thankfully the independent traders keep the quality and diversity up."

Sandra Auld said: "That's good news, love The Range stuff, good for Hexham as well."

Jane May Darling-Smith said: "Could save a trip to IKEA, it did us looking for garden furniture - fabulous choice at reasonable prices."

Paula Cram said: "Very pleased. I do diamond art and it will save me going to the range at the Metrocentre."

A spokesperson for the Range said: "We’re looking to open a new The Range store in Hexham sometime in the future.  We’re currently working through the detail and will be revealing plans later this year."
