WITH a comprehensive 4-1 victory in the final, schoolboys from Prudhoe lifted the county cup.
Highfield Middle School’s U11 team defeated Valley Garden to secure the boys’ football county cup. The success complements a great season for the school after its U13 girls’ team went through their West Tyne League campaign unbeaten.
Highfield’s boys’ route to the final was a tricky one and, after receiving a bye to the second round, they progressed to the quarter-finals after a late winner saw off the challenge of Meadowfield.
Whyrig were disposed of in the quarters, while Highfield needed penalties to progress past Hexham Middle School in the final four after the teams were tied at 1-1.
