Tynedale RFC’s Ollie Fletcher has been handed a contract with the Newcastle Falcons Senior Academy after impressing for the Tyne Valley side.
18-year-old Ollie, who plays as a hooker, is currently studying in his final year at Newcastle School For Boys, is the school’s captain for their first XV squad.
Ollie is no stranger to the Falcons set up, having represented the Kingston Park-based team at a number of age groups.
The youngster has also represented England U18s this season and is surely a name to watch out for in the future.
“A huge congratulations to Tynedale youngster Ollie Fletcher who has been awarded a contract with the Newcastle Falcons Senior Academy,” said Tynedale RFU on Facebook.
“Ollie intends to study Psychology alongside his rugby programme at Newcastle Falcons.
“Well done Ollie, enjoy the full rugby and life experience.”
Ollie has expert guidance at home as his father is the highly regarded coach John Fletcher.
John has coached at the Falcons and with England, and is thought of as one of the best rugby coaches the country has produced.
As well as showing great potential on the rugby pitch, the teenager is a promising cricketer who has starred in Tynedale’s first XI for a number of seasons now.
The good news was added to after Tynedale confirmed Rob Farrar, who had previously been part of Newcastle Falcon’s Senior Academy, has been promoted into their senior squad.
Farrar, who made his Gallagher Premiership debut for the Falcons against Sale back in February, had previously played 15 times for Tynedale in the 2018-19 season.
“Also the club is pleased to be able to congratulate Rob Farrar who has been promoted from the Newcastle Falcons Senior Academy to their first team squad,” added Tynedale.
The first competitive fixtures since Covid-19 have been announced with Tynedale to start their season on September 4.
