Wins over hurdles by Beaumesnil, Pinot Rouge, Velasco, Champ Royal and Blame Rose between February 29 and March 7 made it a week to remember for Otterburn trainer Susan Corbett, taking her season's tally to 11 and breaking the £100,000 prize-money barrier in the process.

With more than six weeks still to go, she only needs 2 more winners over jumps to equal her previous best tally achieved in the 2017/18 season.

Despite the saddle slipping on the run-in, Beaumesnil (Nathan Moscrop) set the ball rolling when scoring by one-and-a-half lengths from Sailed Away at Wetherby in the colours of The Rede Valley Reivers.

Conditional jockey Edward Austin couldn't claim his 5lb allowance on Pinot Rouge in the Listed 3m Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Doncaster the following day, but it made no difference as he ground out by far his biggest win. Owned by Stuart Oliver, the victory of the 20/1 chance by half-a-length over Irish raider Ottizzini was also a career high for Corbett.

Back at Doncaster twenty four hours later on heavy ground, Velasco (Nathan Moscrop) defied top weight when making all the running to beat Ri Na Cuirte by eighteen lengths in a 3m Novices' Handicap Hurdle. The eight-year-old, jointly owned by Samantha Toomes and Susan Corbett, was following up last month's Sedgefield success over a shorter trip.

Carrying the colours of The Northern Racing Club, Champ Royal (Sam Coltherd) completed a hat-trick in great style at Catterick on March 6 when forging clear in the home straight to score by nineteen lengths from odds-on favourite Burrows Hall. The winner was a bargain buy out of Neil Mulholland's yard in September and, like a few of his stablemates, will be heading for one of the valuable Go North Series Finals at Musselburgh (April 5), Kelso (April 6) or Carlisle (April 7).

The red-hot form of Corbett's yard continued when Blame Rose (Nathan Moscrop), owned by The Nelson Racing Partnership, made all in the 2m1f Mares' Novices' Handicap Hurdle at Carlisle on March 7, her first success at the 14th attempt and her third start since undergoing wind surgery.
