It proved to be a great weekend for our local teams in the Northern Alliance Bay Plastics Premier Division with victories for Haltwhistle Jubilee, Ponteland United and league leaders Wallington.
In a match switched to the 3G pitch at Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham, Jack Barker (3) and debutant Jordan Norris were on target as Haltwhistle Jubillee won 4-2 against bottom of the table Killingworth FC.
Ponteland United left it late to secure a fifth home win in a row against Newcastle Chemfica, with Jude Mattera equalising in the 90th minute before Mason Stephenson fired home in the 95th minute.
Wallington won 3-1 against Cramlington United through goals from Kris Willis and Jordan Nellis (2) to equal last season's points tally of 55 with eight games still to play. Their ever reliable keeper Aaron Carr had double cause for celebration as it was his 200th game for the club.
In contrast, Prudhoe YC Seniors and Ryton & Crawcrook Albion were both beaten on their travels in Ebac Northern League Division Two. Chester-le-Street Town scored twice in the first 5 minutes against Prudhoe YC Seniors and were 3-0 up at half-time before Craig Fairley scored a 75th minute consolation goal for Mark McMeekin's side.
Redcar Town's 2-1 win against Ryton & Crawcrook Albion at Mo Mowlam Memorial Park featured a goal from home keeper Jonathan Algie. A wind-assisted clearance from his own box bounced over opposite number Brogan Colquhoun and sailed into the net to spark wild celebrations on the pitch.
