WE ARE celebrating those from Hexham and surrounding districts who completed the London Marathon 2024 on Sunday, April 21.
One runner from our patch was Alison Biggs from Riding Mill, who achieved her personal best time of 3.55 .20.
At 64 years old, Alison from Riding Mill achieved a new personal best, a time she is thrilled about.
"The 'standard' time is four hours, so I managed to beat it by five minutes, which, being a runner, is a big deal.
"This is my third London Marathon and I came here alone as I thought it was too much to ask for my family to come down with me.
"However, their support and love were with me from afar, as they were able to track me on my progress.
"The weather was perfect and the crowd were amazing and so supportive. The atmosphere was amazing.
"During my time in London, I was also able to visit my grandchildren, so it was a perfect weekend.
Rachel Bradley and Jack Oram, who currently live in London but are originally from Wylam and Prudhoe, also participated in the marathon.
Rachel ran for Alzheimer's Research UK and raised over £3000!
