The Northern Area Point-to-Point season concludes on Saturday with the Haydon fixture at Hexham Racecourse where a seven race card with 110 entries starts at 2pm. As usual, the main action will be preceded by two pony races from 1pm.
The WMH Quality Catering Conditions Race has 17 entries and should chiefly concern Ask Cory, Eagles Rock, El Presente and Nick Lost. 2023 Corbridge winner Ask Cory scored twice at Friars Haugh earlier this season before chasing home Oscar Wilde when stepped up in grade at Corbridge and has to concede 7lb here to the progressive Eagles Rock who is on a hat-trick following impressive victories at Overton and Corbridge.
The High Plains Maiden Race has 18 entries and looks a wide-open affair. Formerly trained in Ireland by Colin Bowe, Selectivelistening is expected to go well on his first start for record-breaking ladies champion jockey Gina Andrews who has ridden almost 400 career winners between the flags. Others to note are Shantou's Temple and Easter Glory.
Trust Me Nate and She Is The Enemy should be in the mix in the 2m4f Jacksons of Hexham Maiden Race along with Warwickshire raider Geordies Secret who shaped well when 4th on debut at Garthorpe three weeks ago and will be suited by the drop in trip.
Course winner Loughan can complete a five-timer under Gina Andrews in the 2m4f Graham Reader Motor Engineer Ladies Open Race at the main expense of locally trained Fightfortheroses and Batman For Ever who both won last time out.
After winning with a bit in hand at Overton and Corbridge, Oscar Wilde can complete a hat-trick in the JS Hubbuck Ltd Maling Trophy Mixed Open Race to seal the Northern Area Ladies Championship for Amy Coltherd. His main rivals are Dundrum Wood and Buster Valentine.
Recent Maiden winners Can We Keep Him, Pop The Question and Whats The Solution figure amongst the 15 entries for the Insync Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic Restricted Race in which Shropshire raider Bestfriend Barnaby is top-rated.
Quite a few of the 15 entries for the concluding Lycetts Insurance Brokers Conditions Race hold alternative engagements on the card and it may pay to take a chance with You Name Him, a four-time winning hurdler, who caught the eye when 3rd at Witton Castle on his first start for twelve months.
