Following previous victories in 2018 and 2021, Humshaugh Cricket Club regained the O'Neill Richmonds West Tyne League Division One KO Cup after beating Belsay by eight wickets in last Sunday's rearranged Final at Priors Flat, Hexham.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Belsay got off to a disastrous start with the loss of Alan Johnson who was clean bowled by Jack Garrett off the third ball of the innings. Nuwan Liyanage and Jonny Hedley then added 27 for the second wicket before Liyanage (9) was bowled by Garrett and new batsman Jack Fenwick followed four balls later with no further addition to the score.
The total had advanced to 66-5 in the 12th over when top-scorer Hedley (37) was brilliantly run out by a direct hit from distance by Andy Crawford. Paul Jackson (10) was the only other player to reach double figures and they were eventually all out for 91 in the 17th over.
Garrett (4-7 off 4 overs) did most of the damage and he received good support from Crawford (2-20 off 4 overs), Luke Parkinson (1-24 off 4 overs), Steven Arnup (1-9 off 2 overs) and Finn Garrett-Jowsey (1-29 off 2.4 overs).
In reply, Humshaugh also started badly with openers Crawford (4) and Parkinson (7) both clean bowled by Dan Tait to leave them on 11-2 after only 2.1 overs. Club captain Arnup (37 not out) and Rob Forster (30 not out) then shared an unbeaten third wicket partnership of 82 as the North Tyne side coasted across the line in the 13th over.
Earlier in the afternoon, Haltwhistle survived a few scares to beat Wylam in a less one-sided contest in the Division Two KO Cup Final.
