Sunderland are set to kickstart their transfer deadline day dealings with a loan move for Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham.
According to Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam, the 26-year-old centre-back is on his way to the north east for a medical, ahead of completing a season-long loan move.
The Welsh international made 10 appearances in the Premier League last season for the Cherries but hasn't played a single minute under Androni Iraola so far this campaign.
Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris is looking to build upon a remarkable start at the Stadium of Light, which sees the Black Cats with three wins from three, with no goals conceded in the Championship thus far.
Mepham will be a welcome addition to the backline and will provide competition for the likes of Luke O'Nien, Dan Ballard and Aji Alese in Sunderland's already strong defence.
Perhaps most importantly, the former Brentford man has promotion-winning experience with Bournemouth, and will be hoping to help Le Bris' side maintain their perfect record when they make the long trip to take on Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon.
