Tynedale Rugby Club has asked people to adhere to its dogs policy for the safety of its players, otherwise they'll revoke the right to bring dogs on the grounds.

The Corbridge-based club has seen a lot of instances of dog fouling and is now urging residents to follow the policy of bringing four-legged friends onto the fields to ensure that players aren't at risk of Toxocariasis.

Toxocariasis is an infection caused by tiny worms found in the poo of dogs, cats, and foxes - it can sometimes lead to a serious problem.

A statement issued by chief executive Henry Carnforth states: "Although you may believe your dog to be well-trained, and that you are diligent in cleaning up after it, failure to keep your dog on a lead may encourage other owners with less care to believe that they can ignore our concerns.

"If present levels of dog fouling continue, we reserve the right to ban all dogs from the grounds. This is not something we wish to do and hope that you will work with us to keep the grounds clear."

The club's current policy on dogs is that it must always remain on a lead and any mess must be cleaned up immediately.
